Petey’s Promise - Provision for Pets in Need, was started by animal lover, Liz Mellott, when one day reading about individuals who were struggling to make ends meet and having to give up their pets. Involved in several other charities, and having two rescued pets of her own, this problem touched her heart. Liz immediately started researching how she could help pet food pantries in NC. When she realized the lack of pet food assistance in the Concord/Charlotte area she decided to take matters into her own hands and start one.

With the help of friends and family Petey’s Promise was born. The pet food pantry is named in honor of Liz’s rescued lab-spaniel mixed dog Petey. Realizing that no one is able to rescue all the abandoned animals in NC, she decided to start by helping to feed them one pet at a time.

Petey’s Promise accepts donations of both cat and dog food, as well as kitty litter, pet food bowls, leashes, kennels, and other supplies and redistributes them to the community in hopes of reducing the number of homeless pets. Even if the bag of food is open, we'll accept it. Did you have to buy a different bag of food because your cat just didn't like the first? We can put it to good use!

If you receive pet food from us, we ask you make a donation back to the Pantry when you are able to; whether it is your time, a bag of dog or cat food, or a monetary donation.
