FAQs
Due to our volunteers’ limited availability, and the large amounts of calls and emails to Petey’s Promise, we have designed this 'FAQ' section. If you have a question please see if it's listed first. If you still have questions please contact us.
Q: “What criteria do I have to meet to be eligible for assistance?”
A: We help those from the military, low-income, the elderly, those on social security, unemployed, on disability, temporarily out of work, and anyone in general needing a hand to temporarily feed their pets. No proof of assistance is needed, we rely on the Honor Policy.
Q: "How do I apply for assistance?"
A: The individual person, or one representative of a family, receiving the food needs to fill out our application and either email it or snail mail it to our physical address. Please see our application and guidelines for more detailed information.
Q: "Do you deliver?"
A: Due to the cost of fuel, we are unable to deliver food at this time.
Q: "How long could I get assistance? How much food could I get?"
- We ask only one person per household applies.
- We try provide up to 50 pounds of dog food a month, for a six month period.
- If one receives food the maximum amount of times allowed, we ask that household not to reapply for assistance for at least 90 days.
- Forty-five days must pass between pick-ups if the maximum amount of food is received.
- The amount of cat food we provide is determined by the number of donations we receive.
- We are not to be used as a permanent supply of a household's pet food. We are established to help those who need temporary assistance.
Q "Do you offer food for other pets such as birds, rabbits, horses, or rodents?"
A: At this time we are only able to offer dog and cat food. However, we do hope to branch out soon.
Q: "I live outside the Charlotte/Concord area. Can I still get help?"
A: Yes. We serve the Charlotte/Concord area, but are not strictly limited to these two cities. However, we do have to restrict our services to North Carolina residences.
Q: "My neighbor needs food too. Could I pick up food for them?"
A No. We ask if a neighbor, family member, or friend needs help too, they contact the Pantry directly and fill out their own application. However, several in this situation will carpool to save on gas $ and time.
Q: "What can I do to help?"
A: We need pet food, sponsorships, and volunteers the most. The volunteer positions available are: food distribution, writing and mailing letters to local vets, finding and talking to business sponsors, putting up flyers in various locations, and assisting in picking up pet food. If you can spare at least one hour a month, we could use you. For a detailed list of items, please see our wish list.
